Primatologist Citlalli Morelos-Juarez leads a conservation project in the Ecuadorian region of the Choco rainforest, one of the last coastal rainforests in the world and a unique habitat for the endangered endogenous spider-monkey.
Key to her project has been setting up a ‘parabiologist’ programme that empowers local women to collaborate as field scientists, protecting the forest’s delicate eco-system for the benefit of local communities – and the wildlife that lives alongside them.
